Via a statement, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for the “successful dismantling” of a huge drug gang alongside a multi-million dollar narcotics production system functioning right inside Nigeria.

The Nigerian Federal Law Enforcement Agency seized illicit drugs worth more than “$360 million”, and, arrested top foreign and local collaborators.

The President described these moves by the NDLEA as a “clear message” from Nigeria, that the country will not neglect its future to “criminal networks and narco traffickers”.

The Statement on Thursday 21 May, 2026, signed by the President himself, reads: “I commend the @ndlea_nigeria and its operatives for the successful dismantling of a major drug syndicate and a multi-million dollar narcotics production network operating within our country.

“The seizure of illicit drugs and chemicals valued at over $360 million, alongside the arrest of key foreign and local collaborators, sends a clear message that Nigeria will not yield its future to criminal networks and narco traffickers.”

The President said, West Africa is fastly emerging into a “major” passageway in the global narcotics trade, and it brings about “direct threat” to the region’s security, as well as, the future of the young West Africans.

He said, this “danger” must be battled with “courage and consistency”.

The Statement reads: “West Africa is increasingly becoming a major corridor in the global narcotics trade, and this poses a direct threat not just to our security, but to the future of our young people. We must confront this danger with courage, coordination, and consistency.”

He called on Nigerians to support the law enforcement agencies by always being watchful and reporting “suspicious” activities in their communities.

The Statement further reads: “I urge Nigerians to support our law enforcement agencies by remaining vigilant and reporting suspicious activities within their communities.”

In the conclusion of his Statement, the President commended the NDLEA for its “professionalism, bravery, and resilience”; he said, “the fight against illicit drugs is a fight for the soul, safety, and future of our nation”.
