NCDC releases advisory on hantavirus in Nigeria

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has released a ‘Public Health Advisory’ on hantavirus in Nigeria.

The advisory was released to address the recent reports of the zoonotic virus cluster linked to international cruise ship travel involving several countries.

The National Public Health Institute for Nigeria made known, hantavirus has no confirmed case in the country, adding, the general risk to the Nigerian public remains “low”.

Via the advisory, NCDC said: “At this time, there is NO confirmed case of Hantavirus in Nigeria, and the overall risk to the public remains low.”

The Health Body said, it is “actively monitoring the situation and strengthening surveillance for emerging infectious diseases.”
