Vincent Kompany, Bayern Munich head coach, has made it clear, the “most important thing” to him is to “win in the end”.
The Belgian manager will line up his men against Paris Saint-Germaine (PSG) on Wednesday 6 May, 2026 for the Uefa Champions League 2025/26 semi final second leg at Allianz Arena at 20:00 (WAT).
He said, he is not expecting the French side to “line up any differently” when they collide with his side in Munich, however, said, “our mission is to win PSG”, who are the defending champions.
Bayern Munich will be heading into the game after suffering a 5-4 defeat in the tie’s first leg at Parc des Princes in Paris last Tuesday, and will be eyeing to overturn the deficit on home turf.
The former Belgium international said, all he needs is to score just one (1) goal more than the Les Parisiens, and his place in the final is secured.
According to Bayern Munich on X, Kompany disclosed, German attacking midfielder, Serge Gnabry, is “fit and available” for the showdown, saying, it is “difficult” to field against PSG because they are in “very good physical shape”.
At his pre-PSG press conference, Kompany said:
On the game…
“With me, inner calm prevails. I try not to let the emotions from the game play a role too early. And I’m already thinking about what the last sentence could be to motivate the team one more time.”
On the approach…
“For PSG, it’s hard to imagine that they’ll line up any differently. And for us too. We’re playing at home, we want to win. That’s the most important thing in the end.”
On sqaud update…
“The first good news is that everyone except Serge is fit and available. That’s the foundation and a huge difference from last season, where it cost us titles. But I’d describe Paris as completely fit. They’re in very good physical shape and that’s why it’s so difficult to play against them.”
On his offensive style…
“Our mission is to win games. That’s what it’s all about. We’ve won many games, PSG too. In the end, it’s about scoring one goal more than the opponent. If it can be done without conceding, that’s good. But even more pragmatic is to win.”
Bayern Munich will be looking to add the Uefa Champions League trophy to their cart after already bagging the Bundesliga 2025/26.
