Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City worked really hard to salvage a point in the Premier League 2025/26 match against Everton on Monday 4 May, 2026 at Hill Dickinson Stadium in Liverpool.
The visitors were able to celebrate after their leveller deep in additional time; the Cityzens lost two (2) crucial points which has left Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal in control of the Premier League title race.
Rayan Cherki provided for Jeremy Doku in the 43rd minute to place Manchester City in front, however, what happened thereafter dropped the jaws of City manager, Guardiola, who watched as his side conceded three (3) times.
It looked like Manchester City were flying when Doku curled the ball into the top corner late in the first 45 minutes, however, Marc Guehi’s poor back pass was capitalized upon by substitute Thierno Barry to level for the Toffees in the 68th minute.
In the 73rd minute, Jake O’Brien headed the home side ahead with James Garner’s assist to ignite wild celebrations inside the Hill Dickinson.
And, once again Barry found the back of the net after Merlin Rohl had provided to take David Moyes’ Everton further ahead to make it 3-1.
But, City fought back and Erling Haaland converted Mateo Kovacic’s assist to make it 3-2 in the 83rd minute, and just as the showdown appeared to be over for the Cityzens, Doku intervened with the final kick with an assist from Guehi in the 7th minute of additional time.
This outcome now positions Arsenal in charge of the Premier League title quest as the Gunners are now five (5) points atop with Manchester City having one game unplayed.
If the Gunners can emerge victorious in three (3) top flight games, then, they will certainly be celebrating their first Premier League title in a whopping twenty-two (22) years.
Arsenal will be slugging it out with Spanish side, Atletico Madrid, in the Uefa Champions League 2025/26 semi final second leg clash on Tuesday 5 May, 2026 at Emirates Stadium at 20:00 (WAT).
The English side will be looking to scale through the Mattress Makers to reach the final of the tournament.
