Governor Bago support farmers with ‘150,000’ bags of fertilizer

First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu and the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, were in Minna, Niger State to officially flag-off the 2026 farming season on Saturday 2 May, 2026.

The event hosted by the Governor, Farmer Umaru Mohammed Bago, had other distinguished stakeholders in attendance, was described as a “significant step” by the APC Chief, and will help “in our collective drive toward food security and economic resilience”.

Taking to X, Yilwatda praised the government of Niger State for making the “bold intervention in supporting farmers with 50 combine harvesters, 250 tractors, 1,500 ploughing and farming implements, and 150,000 bags of fertilizer”.

He said, the intervention, which he described as an “investment”, will bring about “productivity and prosperity for our people”.

Her Excellency, the First Lady graced the occasion with her presence as Special Guest of Honour.

Yilwatda said, the event “reinforced our shared commitment under the Renewed Hope agenda to empower farmers, strengthen value chains, and position agriculture as a cornerstone of national development”.

Niger State, in the Northwestern Region, is largely driven by agriculture along with livestock farming and herding. It plays an important role in the energy sector of Nigeria due to its hydroelectric dams.
