Member Associations of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) have “unanimously” reached an agreement to back Gianni Infantino’s reelection as President of Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).
The unanimous agreement was reached in Vancouver, Canada in a meeting held by Patrice Mostepe, President of CAF, on Wednesday 29 April, 2026.
If reelected, Infantino will stay on as FIFA President from 2027 to 2031.
Also, CONMEBOL, South American football confederation, has publicly supported the reelection of Infantino to continue for another four (4) years.
56-year old Infantino is yet to officially declare his plan to run for reelection, however, presumably, he will, putting into consideration how he has reorganised FIFA during his decade in control.
Infantino was reelected in 2019 and 2023 without opposition.
According to CAF Media: “CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe held a meeting on Wednesday 29 April 2026, in Vancouver Canada on the eve of the 76 FIFA Congress with the 54 CAF Member Associations.
“The CAF Member Associations unanimously agreed to support Gianni Infantino to be re-elected as President of FIFA for the period 2027-2031.”
Via a statement released on Thursday, CONMEBOL paid tribute to the “leadership” shown by Infantino and the “advances made”, particularly in football’s development, under Infantino’s management.
The World Football Governing Body held conversations with political and football figures in September about widening the men’s World Cup to a 64-team tournament in 2030.
The 64-team concept was first presented by Ignacio Alonso, the Uruguayan Football Association’s
