Manchester United are within close distance of coming back to the Uefa Champions League after a 2-1 triumph over Brentford in the Premier League match on Monday 27 April, 2026 at Old Trafford.
Michael Carrick earned maximum points following his side’s stunning finishing and wastefulness from the side of the Bees.
The outcome means Manchester United are just two (2) points away from securing their return to the Uefa Champions League next season as temporary manager, Carrick, gets closer to his target following his interim take over in January.
Manchester United’s early effort after Kobbie Mainoo connected Amad Diallo from close range following a run solo would have opened the scoring for the Reds, but, the Ivory Coast international was denied after Sepp van den Berg cleared off his effort from the line.
The home side took the lead in the 11th minute through Casemiro from Harry Maguire’s assist after a feeble set-piece defending from the visitors.
And, in the 43rd minute, Bruno Fernandes set up Benjamin Sesko to double the lead for the hosts; the assist was the Portuguese midfielder’s 19th of the Premier League 2025/26, one away from the record set by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.
Dango Ouattara’s weak header should have found the net for the Bees, but, it somehow struck the post from few yards out.
However, in the 87th minute, Brentford finally netted their consolation through Mathias Jensen; the Danish Central midfielder smashed home a beautiful effort from distance.
Jensen’s goal restored some hope to Brentford but the Reds held on.
