Manchester City 2-1 Southampton: Cityzens survive Saint scare to reach fourth consecutive FA Cup final

It was a really huge scare against Manchester City by Championship side, Southampton, but, the Cityzens fought and came from the back to win 2-1 in the FA Cup 2025/26 semi final clash at Wembley Stadium on Saturday 25 April, 2026.

After holding City, Southampton launched what looked like a famous FA Cup moment when attacking midfielder, Finn Azaz, curled them in front in the 79th minute.

Manchester City kept on piling pressure on the very stubborn defence of Southampton, and eventually found the leveller in the 82nd minute through Jeremy Doku’s deflected effort; it was Tijjani Rejinders who provided for the Belgian winger.

After Pep Guardiola’s side drew level, it looked like the showdown will plunge into extra time, but, Manchester City didn’t want that, and Doku assisted Nico Gonzalez, who netted the winner for the Blues late, in the 87th minute.

Gonzalez launched a powerful strike that found its way into the top corner to hand Manchester City their second of the evening.

Next for the Cityzens and Saints:

Manchester City will now face the winner between Leeds United and Chelsea in the final, while, Southampton return to the Championship as they continue their quest for promotion when they meet Ipswich Town in midweek.

On Tuesday 28 April, 2026, Southampton will welcome Ipswich Town at Stadium of Light for a Championship match at 19:45 (WAT).

City and Leeds United or Chelsea will play for the FA Cup trophy on Saturday 16 May, 2026 at the country’s National Stadium in Wembley, London. The Wembley Stadium is a 90,000-seat capacity facility that hosts the FA Cup final.

Chelsea and Leeds United will fight for a spot in the FA Cup final when they lock horns in the semi final on Sunday 26 April, 2026 at Wembley Stadium at 15:00 (WAT).
