Car hit pedestrians in Melbourne, one dead

According to Police, a man has been apprehended in the city of Melbourne, Australia after a car climbed a kerb and drove into pedestrians, resulting to the death of one.

Two (2) pedestrians were hit on Langs Road in the Ascot Vale suburb by a grey car on Saturday, the Police revealed.

One pedestrian died on the spot while the other was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police say, the circumstances leading to the collision is till unknown and the apprehended man was due to be interrogated.

Reports by local media say, the unfortunate incident occurred outside the Melbourne Showgrounds, where the two-day Supanova Comic Con & Gaming event is being hosted.

Images from the scene reveal a Police line around the vehicle, which appeared to have visible damage.

Craig McEvoy, Det Insp, disclosed to 9News, the driver had been apprehended by an off-duty officer who was assisted by the public. He said, it remains unknown whether the crash was on purpose, however, Police will ensure to investigate all avenues, encompassing whether drugs or alcohol were involved.

People in their thousands had reportedly been expected to attend the event which tags itself as the “home of Australia’s pop culture fandom”.

Celebrities were announced as guests to attend the event.
