Yusuf Maitama Tuggar has officially tendered his resignation as Minister of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Nigeria on Monday 30 March, 2026.
Tuggar, who served as Nigeria’s ambassador to Germany from 2017 to 2023, submitted his resignation in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
The former Member of the House of Representatives from Bauchi State announced: “Today, I formally submitted my resignation letter as Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, in line with the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and the provisions of the Electoral Act.”
He expressed his gratitude to the President for the “trust and opportunity” to serve the country, as well as, contributing to strengthening the foreign policy of Nigeria.
Tuggar said: “This moment marks the close of a significant chapter of service; focused on strengthening Nigeria’s global partnerships, deepening diplomatic engagement, and delivering a people-centred approach to foreign policy.
“I express my sincere appreciation to President Tinubu @officialABAT for the trust and opportunity to serve under the Renewed Hope Agenda, and to contribute to advancing Nigeria’s foreign policy through the 4D Doctrine.
“I remain deeply grateful for the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs @NigeriaMFA, as well as the collaboration and partnership of colleagues and partners across the world.”
