Bournemouth 2-2 Manchester United: Reds held, Maguire sees red

On the day he received a recall to the England squad, defender Harry Maguire was shown a straight red card as AFC Bournemouth held Manchester United to a 2-2 draw in the Premier League 2025/26 match on Friday 20 March, 2026 at Vitality Stadium in Dorset.

33-year old Maguire, who joined Manchester United in 2019 from Leicester City, bagged a recall to the England national team earlier on Friday. It is the first time the central defender is returning to his national team since 2024.

Maguire has been named in Manager Thomas Tuchel’s sqaud for the upcoming friendly matches against Uruguay and Japan.

The showdown was going well for Michael Carrick’s Reds as the visitors were ahead 2-1 until Maguire was shown a straight red card for pulling Evanilson back inside the box.

Junior Kroupi stepped forward and finely converted the penalty kick in the 81st minute to earn AFC Bournemouth a point.

All four (4) goals were scored in the second 45 minutes following a goalless first half.

Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring for United in the 61st minute from the penalty spot after Alex Jimenez fouled on Matheus Cunha inside the box.

The Portuguese midfielder’s kick sent Cherries goalkeeper the wrong way as he recorded his eighth Premier League goal of the season.

The home side levelled after Manchester United were denied another penalty after Amad Diallo was brought down inside the box – Ryan Christie scored from the edge of the box from A. Truffert’s assist.

The Reds went back in front in the 71st minute after James Hill found the back of his own net from a Fernandes’ corner.

The outcome leaves Manchester United on the third spot of the table with fifty-five (55) points, while, AFC Bournemouth are tenth with forty-two (42) points.

While Manchester United will field against Leeds United on April 13, 2026 in the next Premier League encounter at Old Trafford at 20:00 (WAT), AFC Bournemouth will lock horns with toppers, Arsenal, on Saturday 11 April, 2026 at Emirates Stadium at 12:30 (WAT).
