To celebrate the completion of Ramadan, the Federal Government declared Thursday 19 and Friday 20, 2026 as public holidays.
Via X, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) member prayed, “may the lessons of Ramadan; love, humility, generosity, and unity continue to guide us”.
Obi said, “in these trying times” in the country, we need to “carry forward the spirit of kindness, extend help to the vulnerable”; he called for “togetherness” for the prosperity of Nigeria.
He said, we must “work together for peace, justice, and progress in our nation”.
In his Eid al-Fitr message to Muslims, Obi further prayed: may “Almighty Allah accepts your ibadah, forgives our shortcomings, and grants you and our country abundant blessings, security, and prosperity.”
Eid Al-Fitr
Eid Al-fitr is the Festival of breaking of the fast. It is the first of the two (2) main festivals in Islam; the other is Eid Al-Adha.
The holiday comes on the tenth month of the Islamic calendar (Shawwal), and it is one of the most significant celebrations in Islam. It is celebrated across the world by Muslims as it marks the end of Ramadan (a month-long fasting).
