Chelsea 3-2 West Ham: Enzo Fernandez scores winner in stoppage time

West Ham United conceded three (3) goals in the second half after taking a two-goal lead over Chelsea in the first half of the Premier League 2025/26 match on Saturday 31 January, 2026 at Stamford Bridge.

It was a serious heartbreak the Blues inflicted on the Hammers, who were very outstanding, by finding the net three (3) times in the second 45 minutes of the showdown to grab a 3-2 comeback triumph on home soil and hand Liam Rosenior a sixth victory from seven (7) encounters in control.

The English manager, who moved to Stamford Bridge from French Ligue 1 side, Strasbourg, went on to make seven (7) changes to his starting XI from Chelsea’s previous game, and it yielded no positive result.

The Blues were incoherent, feeble and lacked the ability to dominate in the clash, and the visiting side through a combined force of Jarrod Bowen and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, inflicted problems on the Blues right flank, where the goals came from.

Wan-Bissaka supplied Bowen, who opened the scoring for the Hammers early, in the 7th minute; and Crysencio Summerville netted the second for the visitors in the 36th minute with Wan-Bissaka assisting once again.

West Ham held their lead till the end of the first half, allowing no goal from their hosts.

Then, manager Rosenior made three (3) changes at the break, a move that boosted Chelsea’s determination.

In the 57th minute, Wesley Fofana’s cross was well headed in by Joao Pedro, and Marc Cucurella levelled in the 70th minute for the hosts with a diving header.

Argentine midfielder, Enzo Fernandez, sealed the victory for Chelsea in the 2nd minute of additional time to hand the Blues all crucial three (3) points.

Hammers’ Jean-Clair Todibo was sent off after being shown a straight red card for violent conduct in the 11th minute of additional time.

What this result means for Chelsea

The outcome means Chelsea have now entered back into the top four (4), and are sitting two (2) points clear of Manchester United, who are fifth in the standings.

This also means the Blues maintain their winning run ahead of a big showdown against Arsenal, who made light work of Leeds United 4-0 on Saturday evening, on Tuesday in the Carabao Cup 2025/26 semi finals.

What this result means for West Ham United

For Manager Nuno Espirito De Santo’s West Ham United, they remain stuck in the red zone with five (5) points away from safety. Nottingham Forest might increase that to eight (8) points on Sunday afternoon when the Foresters play against Crystal Palace at City Ground at 15:00 (WAT).
