Anthony Joshua, British Heavyweight boxer, has posted his heartfelt tribute to his friends, he called “brothers”, who lost their lives in a road accident in Nigeria.
The unforunate incident occurred just few days after the two-time boxing champion finished off American Youtuber-turned-boxer, Jake Paul, in a fight which lasted only six (6) rounds.
The fight which took place in Miami, Florida saw the Briton break Paul’s jaw with his heavy right. The American influencer posted a photo of an x-ray of his broken jaw, where it was shattered in two (2) different places.
Joshua was travelling alongside his friends, personal trainer, Kevin ‘Latif’ Ayodele, and strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami, when the road accident happened along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.
“Latz and Sina” both died on the spot, while, Joshua survived with injuries. He was rushed to hospital in Lagos and was discharged as the doctor said, the boxer can recover from home as his injuries were not so serious.
In a statement released by a spokesperson for Joshua, Ghami and Ayodele were described as “close friends and integral members of Anthony’s team,”
In his tribute posted on X, Joshua wrote: “Thank you for all the love and care you have shown my brothers. I didn’t even realise how special they are.
“I’ll just be walking with them and cracking jokes with them, not even knowing God kept me in the presence of great men. 100% it’s tough for me, but I know it’s even tougher for their parents
“I have a strong mind, and I believe God knows their hearts. May God have mercy on my brothers.”
Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, the driver of the car involved in the crash, was charged by the Nigerian police on Friday with offences that encompass causing death by driving dangerously and driving without a licence.
The case was adjourned until January 20, 2026.
Joshua, who has Nigerian heritage, had travelled down to his country after Christmas to enjoy the holidays with his family in Ogun State .
