Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Executive Governor of Lagos State, joined Kashim Shettima, Vice President, at the sideline event of the 80th Session of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 80) in the city of New York, United States (US).
UNGA 80 opened on 9 September, 2025, however, the high-level General Debate is scheduled to run from 23–27 September and conclude on 29 September 2025.
The Governor said, at the sideline event, he was reminded of the need to balance the risks Africa face with the necessary reforms needed to “unlock investment and create opportunities across the continent.”
Shettima is representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the event.

Governor Sanwo-Olu said: “I joined H.E. Vice President Kashim Shettima at the UNGA sideline event hosted by the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment in partnership with the Africa Finance Corporation.
“The theme, Risk, Reform, Return, spoke directly to the urgent conversations we must continue having about Africa’s growth. It reminded us of the need to balance the risks we face with the reforms required to unlock investment and create opportunities across the continent.”
