‘One of Africa’s most influential cultures’ – Atiku marks Hausa Day

2023 Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, marks Hausa Day today, Tuesday 26 August, 2025 at the “historic” Emir of Daura’s Palace.

The former Vice President said, the Hausa Day is “more than a cultural festival”, adding, “it is a call to safeguard our linguistic treasures”.

Paying his tribute to “one of Africa’s most influential cultures”, Waziri Adamawa said, “through their traditions”, the Hausa people have left an “indelible” mark on West Africa and beyond.

Atiku wrote on X: “Today, as we mark Hausa Day at the historic Emir of Daura’s Palace, we pay tribute to one of Africa’s most influential cultures. The Hausa people, through their language, traditions, and enterprise, have left an indelible mark on West Africa and beyond.

“From commerce to scholarship, governance to the arts, Hausa-speaking communities across 25 countries continue to drive economic growth, foster cultural diplomacy, and preserve a heritage that has stood the test of centuries.

“This celebration is more than a cultural festival; it is a call to safeguard our linguistic treasures, honour the resilience of our forebears, and inspire future generations to embrace unity in diversity as the bedrock of progress.

“May this Hausa Day renew our collective commitment to building a Nigeria, and indeed an Africa, where heritage and modernity thrive side by side.”
