Federal Fire Service launches modern handheld radios for effective response to distress calls

The Federal Fire Service announced, the launch of modern handheld radios to help firefighters “respond more promptly and effectively to distress calls.”

The launch was made known via a Press Release signed by ACG U.A. Umar, ANIPR, Head, Corporate Services, Federal Fire Service Headquarters, on Tuesday 22 July, 2025.

The Press Release reads: “In a bid to enhance communication efficiency and reduce response time to emergency situations, the Federal Fire Service (FFS) has launched a new set of modern handheld walkie-talkies.

“Speaking at the official launch which held yesterday at the Service’s Headquarters, the Controller General, Federal Fire Service, Engr. Jaji O. Abdulganiyu MIFireE ,MNSE reaffirmed the Service’s unwavering commitment to improving its operational capabilities in line with international best practices.

“”The acquisition of these advanced communication tools will go a long way in ensuring our firefighters respond more promptly and effectively to distress calls,” he stated.

“The Controller General, expressed deep appreciation to the Federal Ministry of Interior, under the leadership of the Honorable Minister, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for supplying the communication equipment and called for continued support in further equipping the Service with modern tools necessary for efficient service delivery.

“As part of the launch, there was a practical demonstration of the use of the new devices by personnel, aimed at familiarizing officers with the features and operational handling of the equipment.

“The event marks another step forward in the modernization drive of the Federal Fire Service.”
