Dozens dead after tourist boat capsizes in Vietnam

Due to bad weather, in Vietnam, at least 34 people have lost their lives and several are still missing after a tourist boat capsized.

The mishap took place in Ha Long Bay, a famous tourist destination in the north of the country.

A large number of the passengers were reportedly Vietnamese families who were visiting from the capital Hanoi.

Rescue workers said, heavy rain has been obstructing the search for survivors, however, eleven (11) people have been pulled out from the water so far.

Wonder Seas, the name of the Vessel, was loaded with fifty-three (53) people when it capsized after facing a sudden storm, as disclosed via a statement from the Vietnamese Border Guards and navy said.

The sky went dark on Saturday, an eyewitness told AFP News Agency.

He continued, there were “hailstones as big as toes with torrential rain, thunderstorm and lightning”.

Local media revealed, a ten-year old boy was rescued. VNExpress reports, at least eight (8) of the bodies recovered so far were children.

Pham Minh Chinh, Prime Minister, expressed his condolences to the families of the dead.

Rescue works are expected to continue to find the many that are still missing.
