Arsenal FC: Nuno Tavarez joins Lazio on permanent deal

Nuno Tavares has moved to Italian Serie A side, Lazio, on a permanent transfer.

The 25-year-old defender joined Premier League club, Arsenal, from Portuguese Primeira Liga club, Benfica, in July 2021 and recorded twenty-eight (28) appearances in all competitions.

He netted his first competitive goal for the Gunners in a 3-1 victory against Manchester United in April 2022.

Nuno Tavarez, born in the city of Lisbon, moved to Benfica’s academy in 2015, spending six years with the club. After scaling through to the first team of The Eagles, Tavarez made his debut in style, lifting silverware at the age of 19 as Benfica discomfited Sporting Lisbon by five (5) goals to nothing (0) in the Portuguese Super Cup in August 2019.

After his debut season at the club, the attacking full-back spent time on loan with French Ligue 1 club, Marseille, Nottingham Forest and Lazio. He recorded thirty-nine (39) appearances in all competitions for Marseille during the 2022/23 season, netting six (6) times to help Marseille to a third-place finish in Ligue 1.

A loan period with Nottingham Forest came the following season, where Nuno clinched an accumulated twelve (12) appearances in the English Premier League, as well as, FA Cup.

Nuno then spent the 2024/25 campaign on loan with Italian side, Lazio, where he recorded thirty (30) appearances in all competitions. He clinched nine (9) assists, eight of which came in the first 10 league matches.

During his time on loan at the Young Eagles, Nuno was awarded his first senior international cap when he came on as a substitute in Portugal beautiful victory against Poland – the match ended 5-1 in favour of Portugal – in the UEFA Nations League, in November 2024.

The deal is subject to the completion of regulatory processes.
