The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has extended its “heartfelt condolences” to the victims and families affected by the “devastating” flood in Moukwa, Niger State.
More than 100 lives were claimed by the disaster with many houses, farmlands, schools ravaged.
The Agency expressed “deep sadness” over the “loss of lives, destruction of homes, and displacement of families caused by this tragic natural disaster” as it sent its “thoughts and prayers” to those who have suffered from the impact of the flood.
It said, there is the urgent need for more work on “community awareness on disaster preparedness and environmental responsibility”, adding, it “remains committed to sensitising citizens on safety measures, early warning signals, and collaborative efforts with relevant emergency agencies to minimise the effects of such occurrences”.
NOA advised residents living in areas that are “flood-prone” to always be alert, adhere to instructions from officials, as well as, “take proactive steps to safeguard lives and property.”
It also called on Nigerians and government institutions to support recovery and relief works in Mokwa.
In his assurance, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, said, no Nigerian affected by this disaster “will be left behind or unheard of.”
The President said, he received with “deep concern the distressing reports” of the flooding in the North Central State which led to “the tragic loss of lives and the displacement of families.”
He made known, he swung into action after receiving news of the unfortunate incident by directing the activation of the National Emergency Response Centre.

We encourage residents in flood-prone areas to remain alert, follow official instructions, and take proactive steps to safeguard lives and property.

NOA calls on well-meaning Nigerians, government institutions, and humanitarian organisations to support recovery and relief efforts in Moukwa.
