Nigeria’s President Buhari meets King Charles III in Buckingham Palace

On Wednesday, Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari, met with British Monarch, King Charles III, in Buckingham Palace.

The real reason for the meeting remains unknown, however, it is expected that both leaders will discuss bilateral relations, as well as how to strengthen the relationship between the United Kingdom (UK) and Nigeria.

President Buhari jetted off to the UK for medical checkup on 31 October.

Both leaders had communicated prior to their meeting on Wednesday.

The British Monarch who took over after the demise of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, had written to the Nigerian President, expressing his sympathy with him following the massive floods that have ravaged the West African country, killing hundreds and displacing several others in their millions.

In a letter to Buhari, King Charles III, wrote: “Your Excellency, Dear Mr President.

“I wanted you to know how deeply saddened both my wife and I are to hear of the many people who have lost their loved ones and whose lives have been so dreadfully affected as a consequence of the devastating floods across Nigeria.


“We remember with the greatest affection our visits to Nigeria and the kindness of the people we met.”
