Djokovic was detained for refusing to get vaccinated against Covid.
10 day later, he was deported from the country, despite putting forth a successful legal fight.
Dubbed “Fortress Australia” sometimes, the country had some of the tightest pandemic restrictions in the world.
When the 35-year old tennis star landed in Australia in January, Covid cases were seriously increasing and the Australian government rules required anyone entering the country get vaccinated, unless they possessed a valid medication exemption.
According to the government of Australia, Novak Djokovic did not meet the requirements for entry, as a result, his visa was cancelled and was automatically handed a three-year ban from coming into the country.
However, Andrew Giles, Immigration Minister, whose government took over power in May, has reversed the ban and is ready to grant Mr Novak Djokovic a visa.
