Afrobeats Megastar, David Adedeji Adeleke, professionally known as Davido, has made a call to President of the United States (US), Donald Trump, to pay attention to the forthcoming Governorship Election in Osun State.
The ‘Feel’ singer said via X, “We do not want bloodshed”, adding, there are heightening “concerns” about friction and the possibility of “disruption of the democratic process”.
Davido’s uncle and current Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, will be fighting to retain his position as the first citizen of the Southwestern State in the Election which is scheduled to hold on Saturday 15 August, 2026.
Prior to his nephew’s call to President Trump, the Governor had sent a message personally to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to restrain his nephew and former Governor of Osun State, Adegboyega Oyetola, from making moves that will set the ‘State Of The Living Spring’ “on fire“.
Adeleke also pleaded with the people of Osun State to not allow the State return to the “dark days” when workers begged to survive.
Davido said, the people of Osun deserve to participate in the Governorship Election “freely” and “without fear”.
In his plea to President Trump titled ‘A Call For Attention To President Donald Trump’, Davido wrote: “President Donald Trump, I am calling your attention to the situation in Osun State, Nigeria, as we approach the election.
“There are growing concerns about tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation, or disruption of the democratic process. Osun people deserve to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully, and without fear.”
The ‘Assurance’ singer pleaded with America and the International Community to pay “close attention” to the election, and, charged all appropriate authorities to ensure the protection of voters and all votes “respected”.
He added, Osun State wants “peace” and an election that is “free and fair”.
Davido further wrote: “I appeal to the United States and the international community to pay close attention to the election and encourage all relevant authorities to ensure that every voter is protected and every vote is respected.
“We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election.”
Ademola Adeleke has been serving as Governor of Osun State (his first term) since 2022 after he defeated Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Governorship Election that held on Saturday 16 July, 2022.
He won the Election under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). He served as Senator of Osun State, representing Osun-West senatorial district from 2017 to 2019.
In his warning to Governor Adeleke, Ovation Magazine Publisher, Dele Momodu, said, his “twin brother” should not expect a “free, fair and credible” election on Saturday.
