Hull City 2-0 Manchester United: Nigeria star Semi Ajayi inspire Tigers to win in Premier League comeback

Hull City, newly promoted from Championship, discomfited Manchester United 2-0 in the Premier League 2026/27 match at the multi-purpose MKM Stadium in Kingston on Saturday 22 August, 2026.

The game was Hull City’s first in the Premier League since 2017.

The home side netted both goals in the first 45 minutes. Super Eagles of Nigeria defender, Semi Ajayi, found the back of the net after a corner to open the scoring in the 17th minute, and new signing, Nobel Mendy, headed home to make it two for the Tigers from a free-kick in the 38th minute.

Michael Carrick’s Manchester United heavily dominated the showdown, however, were unable to hit the net. The visitors had ample chances, but, were not good enough to convert.

United recorded attempts to pull a comeback, however, no luck against the well-organized and solid defence of the hosts, with Cameroonian forward, Bryan Mbeumo, having the best chance, only for his effort to go straight at ‘keeper Konstantinos Tzolakis.

Hull City held on until the end and clinched all three (3) points and a clean sheet. The Tigers are now three (3) points with Kings of England, Arsenal, who made light work of Coventry City 3-0 in the Premier League 2026/27 opener on Friday night in London.
