Erling Braut Haaland and Rayan Cherki netted a brace each as Manchester City breezed through Crystal Palace in the Premier League 2026/27 match at Selhurst Park on Friday 28 August, 2026.
Enzo Maresca’s Cityzens took the lead in the 17th minute after Haaland converted Antoine Semenyo’s assist, and in the 54th minute, the visitors took their lead further with the second from French attacking midfielder, Cherki, after Phil Foden had provided.
Cherki wriggled through the defence of the Eagles before poking the ball past a rooted Dean Henderson to double City’s lead; Norwegian striker, Haaland rose high above Chris Richards to open the scoring for the Blues with a header.
Two (2) minutes after Cherki’s goal, City goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma, gifted the home side a consolation after he hit the back of his own net.
The ball rebounded off the Italian goalie and therefore was recorded as an own goal for the Italy Senior National Team shotstopper.
But, Manchester City only got angrier after Crystal Palace found one (1), and, three (3) minutes after the own goal, Cherki restored City’s two-goal lead when he converted an assist from Josko Gvardiol.
Foden recorded his second assist of the game when his effort located Haaland to place the icing on the cake with the fourth of the night and hand the Cityzens maximum points on the road.
The victory in South London means Maresca’s City have now clinched two (2) wins from two (2) top flight encounters. With the first win (2-1) against AFC Bournemouth at Etihad Stadium.
