Chelsea defeated Brighton and Hove Albion 4-3 in the Premier League 2026/27 match on Sunday 30 August, 2026 at Stamford Bridge to extend Xabi Alonso’s 100% start as manager.
The Spanish pro football manager has guided the Blues to two (2) Premier League triumphs back-to-back and one in the League Cup since taking charge at Stamford Bridge.
The hosts quickly went in front, in the 4th minute, through Belgian defensive midfielder, Romeo Lavia; it was his first goal for Chelsea since moving to London in 2023 from Southampton.
In the 14th and 32nd minutes, Pedro Neto and Joao Pedro added the second and third for the home side respectively; Morgan Rogers provided for Neto, and Jorrel Hato assisted Pedro’s goal.
But, ten (10) minutes before half time, Malick Yalcouye pulled one back for the Seagulls, and in the 63rd minute, Pedro gifted the visitors their second by hitting the back of his own net.
Pedro’s own goal shook the Blues, but, they battled on, and found their fourth goal in the 74th minute through Cole Palmer, and it was the Brazilian striker that provided for the English attacking midfielder.
Brighton fought and found their third through Pascal Gross deep in additional time, in the 6th minute, to make it 4-3, however, it was too late to unsettle the Blues.
What next for Chelsea and Brighton?
Chelsea will face reigning Kings of England, Arsenal, in the Premier League contest on Sunday 6 September, 2026 at Emirates Stadium at 16:30 (WAT).
Fabian Hürzeler’s Brighton will play against Leeds United in the Premier League match at American Express Stadium in Brighton and Hove on Saturday 5 September, 2026 at 15:00 (WAT).
The showdown against Mikel Arteta’s Gunners will be Alonso’s first major test since taking over managerial duties at Stamford Bridge.
This test is coming after the Spaniard doused Fulham, Luton Town FC and now Brighton.
Alonso, a former Real Madrid player, joined Chelsea from the Los Blancos; he was the manager of Bayer Leverkusen before moving to Madrid City.

Fernandez, who won the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar with his country, was missing in action for a second successive game after being linked with a move to Manchester City.
