Sam Kerr will part ways with English Club, Chelsea FC Women, when her contract expires at the end of the season. Her exit is coming after six-and-a-half years with the Club.
A statement by the Club reads: “A hugely influential presence during a period of sustained success for the Blues, Kerr will depart as our fourth-highest appearance maker, having represented the club on 157 occasions.
“Cementing her reputation as a ruthless and consistent goalscorer with Chelsea, the Australia international has netted 115 times for the club – and currently sits just one goal behind our all-time leading scorer, Fran Kirby.”
According to Chelsea official website, Kerr said: “When I reflect on my Chelsea career and doing it for the last time [against Manchester United this Saturday], I just feel happy.
“Happy that it happened, and I feel so grateful to have played for this club for six years and won as many trophies as we could.”
Goals scored by Kerr helped Chelsea Women to several trophies over the past six (6) seasons. During trophy-laden 2020/21 and 2021/22 campaigns, she emerged the Club’s top goalscorer, and, two (2) times bagged Women’s Super League Golden Boot awards after the Club clinched successive titles.
Kerr scored twenty-nine (29) goals in thirty-eight (38) appearances in the 2022/23 season for Chelsea as the Club went ahead to clinch another WSL and FA Cup double.
He stunning performances earned her Chelsea’s Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season, in addition to collecting the WSL Player of the Year Award and Football Writers’ Association Women’s Footballer of the Year.
In October 2023, Kerr emerged second in the Ballon d’Or. Sadly, having moved to ninety-nine (99) goals for Chelsea, she picked up a knee injury the following January and was sidelined for twenty (20) months.
Kerr will leave the Club after winning five (5) WSL titles, three (3) FA Cups, three (3) League Cups, the Community Shield, and with a strong place in the history of Chelsea.
