Peter Obi, member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), alongside Nigerians “from all walks of life”, paid their last respects to Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai at the International Conference Centre in Umuahia, Abia State on Thursday 26 March, 2026.
Uma Ukpai, a “great man of God”, passed in October, 2025 at the age of eighty (80). He was the founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association (UUEA), a Gospel Ministry based in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.
Ukpai, a top member of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), “laboured tirelessly to uplift souls”, the former Governor of Anambra State said on X.
Obi described the event as a “solemn and deeply inspiring gethering”, saying, Ukpai was committed to the service of God, as well as, humanity.
The 2023 Labour Party (LP) Presidential candidate said, Ukpai gave strength to families and helped communities along the path of righteousness.
In his tribute to Uma Ukpai titled ‘A Life of Faith and Service: Farewell to Rev. Dr Uma Ukpai’, Obi wrote: “Yesterday, I joined Nigerians from all walks of life to pay our last respects to a great man of God, Rev. Dr Uma Ukpai, at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia.
“It was a solemn yet deeply inspiring gathering – one that reflected the breadth of lives he touched and the enduring legacy he leaves behind.
“Rev. Dr Ukpai was not only a preacher of the Word but a living embodiment of it, marked by humility, compassion, and commitment to the service of God and humanity.
“His life was a testament to faith in action, as he laboured tirelessly to uplift souls, strengthen families, and guide communities along the path of righteousness.”
Expressing gratitude to God for the life of the Late Reverend, Obi prayed, may the “seeds of faith” Ukpai sowed continue to produce “fruits for generations to come”.
Obi further wrote: “As we bid him farewell, we do so with gratitude to God for a life well spent and for the countless seeds of faith he sowed, which will continue to bear fruit for generations to come.
“May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.”
