‘Sugar Refining’: Nigeria’s BUA Group signs ‘strategic’ MoU with UAE-based Group

Nigeria’s BUA Group, a Conglomerate focused on manufacturing, infrastructure and agriculture, has signed a “strategic” Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with AD Ports Group and MAIR Group based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The signing of the MoU which took place on Monday 16 February, 2026 received commendation from Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In January, the Nigerian President witnessed the signing of the Nigeria-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement aimed at strengthening the cooperation between Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Via a disclosure on X, President Tinubu said: “I commend the signing of the strategic Memorandum of Understanding between Nigeria’s BUA Group @BUAgroup and UAE-based AD Ports Group and MAIR Group in Abu Dhabi today.

“Only last month, upon the invitation of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, we witnessed the signing of the Nigeria–UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement to boost cooperation between Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates.”

The signing indicates a huge “industrial and trade breakthrough”, which is as a result of “renewed and improved Nigeria–UAE engagement under our administration”, the President said.

He also credited the signing of the MoU to “a tangible dividend of strengthened diplomatic ties and expanding economic cooperation”.

Tinubu further said, trade, investment, infrastructure, and food security have been “prioritised” under his administration following his contemporary state visits, as well as, high-level engagements.

The partnership that now exists between BUA Group, AD Ports Group and MAIR Group will focus on “sugar refining, agro-industrial development, and integrated global logistics solutions”.

President Tinubu disclosed, infrastructure for sugar refining and advances logistics will be developed at the Khalifa Ports in the UAE, with the aim to “enhance food security, value addition, strengthen supply chain resilience”, as well as, solidify “structured trade flows between West Africa, the Gulf region, and Asia”.

The Nigerian Leader hailed Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu, Chairman of BUA Group, alongside his BUA team, for moving parallel with the “vision” of his administration “for Nigerian industrialisation and showing that Nigerian companies are capable of playing on the global stage”.

Tinubu assured, his administration will not cease to bolster “partnerships that attract investment, expand exports, strengthen Nigerian enterprise, and deliver sustainable prosperity”.
