Cameroon clinched a slim victory over South Africa in the knockouts of the 2025 Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) on Sunday 4 January, 2026 to reach the quarter finals.
The Indomitable Lions netted a goal in either half to oust the Bafana Bafana 2-1 in the last 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations finals on Sunday to lock horns in the quarterfinal clash with host country, Morocco.
Cameroon, who have won the AFCON a record five (5) times, proved too tough at the Al Medina Stadium as they maintained course for Cup of Nations triumph to make up for their failure and qualify for this year’s World Cup in the United States (US), Canada and Mexico.
Junior Tchamadeu and teenage striker Christian Kofane netted for the West African side in the 34th and 47th minutes respectively to make sure Cameroon progressed – although, they had to contend with a late pressure from South Africa which resulted to substitute Evidence Makgopa pulling one back for Head Coach, Hugo Broos’ side.

Earlier on Sunday, Morocco struggled to scale through stubborn Tanzania in Rabat by a lone goal after Real Madrid player, Brahim Diaz, fired defender Achraf Hakimi’s assist into the post.
