Egypt 2-1 Zimbabwe: Marmoush, Salah score as Pharoahs come from behind to win

Liverpool forward, Mohamed Salah, found the back of the net as Egypt fought from the back to defeat Zimbabwe 2-1 in the 2025 Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) Group B match on Monday 22 December, 2025.

Salah is yet to win the AFCON trophy with Egypt and for a huge part of the showdown in Morocco, it appeared as if this campaign was likely to get off to an unpromising start.

Prince Dube scored in the 20th minute to place Zimbabwe in front in the city Agadir as beautiful goalkeeping from Washington Arubi, 40 years of age, handed Zimbabwe the hope of pulling off a shock.

But, Omar Marmoush, Manchester City forward, restored parity when he struck home in the 64th minute; and in the 1st minute of additional time, Salah sealed the win for Egypt after capitalizing on a loose ball in the penalty area.

Next, Egypt, winners of AFCON a record seven (7) times, will face a stronger opponent, South Africa, on Friday 26 December, 2025 in Agadir, while, Zimbabwe will lock horns with Angola in Marrakesh.

Egypt remain the most successful nation in the history of AFCON.
