Akwa Ibom Governor Eno announces commencement of Free Food Distribution Programme in 31 LGAs

The Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, has announced the commencement of the Phase III of the State’s Free Food Distribution Programme across all thirty-one (31) Local Government Areas (LGAs), starting August 20.

The announcement was one of “important decisions” reached at the Akwa Ibom State Executive Council meeting, presided over by the Governor on Tuesday 29 July, 2025.

Governor Eno made known via X: “Yesterday, I presided over the Akwa Ibom State Executive Council meeting, during which we deliberated on key areas that align with our commitment to the ARISE Agenda.

“The council took important decisions to improve infrastructure, enhance transparency, support our people, and build a healthier, more prosperous State.

“Some highlights from the meeting include:

• Renewal of maintenance contract for the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium

• Approval of additional works at Ewet Luxury Estate

• Construction of internal roads at Dakkada Luxury Estate

• Approval of the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (2026–2028)

• Full adoption of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) policy to boost transparency and efficiency

• Launch of Akwaremit and AkwaGIS platforms on September 1

• Commencement of Phase III of our Free Food Distribution Programme across all 31 LGAs, starting August 20

• Approval of new sanitation facilities in public spaces across Obot Akara, Ikono, Esit Eket, and Nsit Ubium LGAs

• Preparations for the Akwa Ibom Sports Festival, including replacement of obsolete equipment

• Scheduled presentation of the ARISE Socio-Economic Impact Report on August 7
