LAMATA initates dialogue with Ministry of Envionment on Purple Line Rail Project ‘to identify and compensate project-affected persons’

On Friday, The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) conducted institutional engagement with the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources where both bodies discussed on the proposed Purple Line Rail Project.

The Purple Line Rail is “a 57km rail stretch from Volkswagen to Redemption City.”

Discussions on the project focused on “the existence of a preliminary design and the project’s progress”, also, “resettlement action plan” would be plotted to “identify and compensate project-affected persons once the final design is complete”.

LAMATA said on its official X account: “Today the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) held an institutional engagement with the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources to discuss the proposed Purple Line rail project.

“LAMATA representatives, including Mr. Dipo Quadri, Arch. Dipo Oshobu, and Dr. Babatunde Osho of Global Impact Environmental Consulting, met with the officials of the Ministry of the Environment to brief the Commissioner and Ministry on the Purple Line initiative.

“Details of the Purple Line, a 57km rail stretch from Volkswagen to Redemption City, were presented to the Director of Environmental Assessment, Mr. Sojinu Sunkanmi Sewanu, who represented the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources,, Mr Tokunbo Wahab.

“Discussions covered the existence of a preliminary design and the project’s progress. It was also noted that a resettlement action plan would be developed to identify and compensate project-affected persons once the final design is complete.

“The Director of Environmental Assessment, Sewanu, commended the engagement, and describing the it as insightful, and pledged to convey all discussed information to the Commissioner.”
