Liverpool FC’s Premier League 2024/25 victory parade turned into chaos on Monday evening after a car hit pedestrians in the city centre, leaving nearly fifty (50) people injured including children.
White British man, 53, believed to be the driver of the vehicle was arrested at the scene of the collision on Water Street in the center of the city, metres from the Royal Liver Building and the town hall, after roads had been reopened after the main parade.
Scenes of celebration with Liverpool fans in their thousands converging at the streets to celebrate their club’s Premier League triumph were fastly replaced with scenes of fear and confusion as emergency services arrived in the evening.
North West ambulance service confirmed via a press conference at late night, twenty-seven (27) people were rushed to hospital, with two of the injured, including one child, sustaining serious injuries. Additionally, 20 patients were treated at the scene near Water Street. Four children sustained injuries in total.
Merseyside police Assistant Chief Constable, Jenny Sims, disclosed, the incident was not being handled as terrorism and they were not looking for anyone else linked with the unfortunate incident.
55-year old Les Winsper who witnessed the incident, narrated: “People started banging on the [car] windows. Then they smashed the windows and he’s panicked and put his foot down. He then hit someone and that person has gone in the air and he’s ploughed through the rest of them. I’ve never seen anything like it.”
Liverpool are the new Kings of England after winning the Premier League 2024/25 – their 20th title, same as Manchester United.
Dutch manager, Arne Slot, guided Liverpool to triumph, winning the League after accumulating a total of 84 points, trailed by Arsenal who amassed 74 points.
