Residents dwelling in the town of Labrador City and Wabush in Newfoundland as well as Labrador Province were ordered to leave their homes, Jeff Motty, provincial fire duty officer, said.
According to Motty: “We are seeing extreme fire behaviour out there. The fire is moving about 50 meters per minute.”
Stacy Hunt, Labrador City resident, told CBC, “It was quite a shock to see that much smoke. And it’s been in pretty much the same place for hours now.”
