South African rapper AKA dead at 35

South African rapper, Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, professionally called AKA, has died at the age of 35 in his country on Friday 10 February, 2023.

According to the Times (South Africa), the rapper was shot and killed in the city of Durban, South Africa.

Durban Police sources disclosed the rapper was shot dead in a drive-by shooting, according to the Times.

Another person believed to be AKA’s bodyguard was wounded in the shooting. The ‘Fela In Versace’ crooner was shot and killed while standing in front a popular restaurant, the Times revealed.

AKA’s parent, Tony and Lynn Forbes, have taken to social media to confirm the unfortunate incident on Saturday 11 February, 2023.

They wrote: “It is with extreme sadness that we acknowledge the passing of our beloved son, and confirm his untimely and tragic passing on the evening of February 10, 2023. We are awaiting further details from the Durban Police.


“To us, Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, was a son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend, most importantly Father to his beloved daughter Kairo. To many he was AKA, SUPERMEGA, BHOVA and the many other names of affection his legion of fans called him by. Our son was loved and he gave love in return. In this time of grief we appeal for your compassion, space and time to congregate as family to decide on the upcoming days.


“We thank you for the love and support we have received this far, and ask you continue to keep us in your prayers and uplifted in the Lord.
