General Pervez Musharraf, former President of Pakistan, has died at the age of 79.

In 1999, Musharraf seized power in a coup.
The former President who led Pakistan from 2001 to 2008, died after a long illness, in Dubai, the country’s army said in a statement.
He suffered loss in the polls in 2008 and left the country six months later.
Musharraf was arrested and barred from standing in 2013, when he returned to Pakistan to try to contest the election.
He left Pakistan for Dubai in 2016 for proper medical attention and had been living in exile in the country ever since.
He died in a hospital on Sunday morning. His body will be flown back to Pakistan from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on a special flight following his family’s submission of an application to do so, local TV Channel, Geo, says.
Pakistan Military said in a statement: “May Allah bless the departed soul and give strength to bereaved family.”
