The Group said that the Party has been more “united” under current leader Governor Ifeanyichukwu Arthur Okowa, and believes that Mr Sherrif “is capable to build on the legacy of Okowa”.
This was made known by the Group at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja during a March on Tuesday.
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is the running mate of the PDP Presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar for the 2023 elections.
Mr Andaye Dagidi, the National Coordinator of the Group said: “We are here to express our support for Sherrif, who is capable to build on the legacy of Okowa.
“Sheriff is a man of credibility. He has all the qualifications to be a governor of Delta State. He is the speaker of the state House of Assembly for two terms.
“Anybody who does not want Sheriff in Delta does not love the state. Sheriff is the most qualified and credible candidate to win Delta for PDP.”
Dagidi viewed the actions by earlier protesters who were pushing for the Ayu-led party to submit the name of Mr David Edevbie to INEC as PDP candidate or resign his chairmanship position as undemocratic and unpatriotic, and urged the party leaders to pay no attention to those actions.
He said that those protesters wanted Deltans to believe that “PDP Delta is in crisis”.
“They have come to create an impression that PDP Delta is in crisis, Delta is united,” Dagidi said.
A vote of confidence was also passed by the Ijaw Mandate Group on Ayu and his led NWC for ensuring a sound leadership for the party as well as for successfully carrying out transparent primaries across all states encompassing Delta for the party nominations for 2023.
“Under his leadership, the party was fully mobilized and packaged to reclaim governorship victory for Osun State from the APC,” Dagidi revealed.
National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr Debo Ologunagba, addressed the Group: “Since 1999 Delta state has been solidly PDP and we believe that from this presentation that Delta is solidly PDP.
“To that extent, we have taken note of what you have said, your concerns and consistent with the position of this NWC, we shall look at it and respond accordingly.”
Mr Ologunagba expressed gratitude to the Group for acknowledging the Ayu-led executive, and urged them to remain “united” for the party to clinch victory in the 2023 elections.
He said: “We urge you to continue to be united so that by 2023 we can celebrate the victory for PDP.”
