Southampton have reached the semi finals of the Carabao Cup after a well deserved 2-0 win over favourites Manchester City at the St. Mary’s Stadium.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola rested top players like Kevin de Bruyne and Erling Braut Haaland against the Saints with this weekend derby against Manchester United at the Old Trafford in mind.
Sekou Mara opened scoring for the hosts in the 23rd minute and Moussa Djenepe sealed it up five minutes later.
Spanish Manager, Guardiola, changed his mind and threw on De Bruyne and Haaland, however, both were not helpful in turning the game around for the Citizens as Southampton went on to successfully secure a spot in the semis.
