US Congresswoman throws hot coffee at lift attacker

On Thursday, a man suspected of attacking a United States (US) Congresswoman in the lift of her apartment building in Washington DC, has been apprehended, Police disclose.

A Minnesota Diplomat, Angie Craig, fought back by throwing hot coffee at the assailant, a report by the Police reveals.

Kendrick Hamlin is accused of punching her and grabbing her neck. He has been charged with simple assault.

The 26-year old has no fixed address.

50-year old Craig was elected to Congress in 2018, she is a mother of four as well as serves as the Congressional Equality Caucus co-Chairwoman.

Nick Coe, Chief of Staff of Craig, via a statement, said, she “defended herself from the attacker and suffered bruising, but is otherwise physically okay”.

Craig called 911 emergency services and the “assailant fled the scene”.

Coe said Ms. Craig expressed gratitude to the DC Metropolitan Police Department “for their quick response and asks for privacy at this time”.
