Co-host of the tournament, Australia, netted first through Emily van Egmond (45+1′), however, the Super Falcons fought back and equalized through Uchenna Kanu (45+6′).

Osinachi Ohale headed Nigeria ahead with the second in the 65th minute and Barcelona striker, Asisat Oshoala, scored the third in the 72nd minute.

Alanna Kennedy scored Australia’s second (90+10′) to end the encounter 2-3.

The Matildas face a battle to scale through into the round of 16 of the tournament following this outcome.

Nigeria clinch the top spot of Group B with four points, level with Canada, while Australia are third with three points.

Next, Australia and Nigeria will lock horns with Olympic Champions, Canada, and Republic of Ireland respectively.
