Premier League 2023/24: Burnley 0-3 Manchester City – Clarets suffer loss on opening day to Champions

Burnley lost their opening day Premier League match to defending champions, Manchester City, right inside the Turf Moor on Friday 11 August, 2023.

The Clarets who gained promotion to the top flight from Championship lost three goals to nothing to the Citizens, allowing Pep Guardiola’s side to cart home all three points.

Norwegian striker, Erling Braut Haaland, netted twice for the visitors in the 4th and 36th minutes, and Rodri sealed victory in the 75th minute with the third.

Manchester City have already started their Premier League title defence.

In his post-match comments, Haaland said: “We’re treble winners. People want to beat us even more.”

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, after the match, said: “we started well.


“We found a goal, we struggled a bit after.


“We gave away balls but after a while we played much better.”
