Bayern Munich will travel to the city of Mainz for the Bundesliga 2023/24 match against Mainz 05 on Saturday 21 October, 2023 at 17:30.
Tuchel proudly said, “We have been in good form recently, and put in one of our best performances against Freiburg.”
In his press conference ahead of the clash in Mainz on Saturday, Tuchel gave an update on his squad, revealing, “Noussair Mazraoui, Serge Gnabry, Dayot Upamecano and Raphaël Guerreiro are all injured”.
Asked about his squad and backline, Tuchel answered: “We have to see whether Joshua Kimmich can play, as he trained for the first time yesterday. Noussair Mazraoui, Serge Gnabry, Dayot Upamecano and Raphaël Guerreiro are all injured. Everyone else could travel to the game; Leon Goretzka is a doubt.
“We’re planning on going with a centre-back pairing of Matthijs de Ligt and Minjae Kim. Matthijs is back in full training and is ready for tomorrow.”
On goalkeeper, Manuel Never, Tuchel said: “We made the decision yesterday, together with him, that Sven Ulreich will start against Mainz and potentially in Istanbul as well. He’s done very well in training. Things are looking good, but we can’t rush it.”
On the opponent, Tuchel said: “Mainz enjoy being the underdogs. We have been in good form recently, and put in one of our best performances against Freiburg. We’re expecting lots of long balls and intense duels for the second balls. We need to be ready to deal with that in order to hopefully showcase our quality.”
