1 Timothy 6:3-4 – ‘If any man teach otherwise, he is proud, knowing nothing’ |
Biblical Doctrine refers to teachings that fall into line with the Word of God.
False Doctrine is any notion that adds to, takes away from, goes contrary or invalidates the doctrine according to the Word of God.
1 Timothy 6:3-4 says “If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,”
For instance, any doctrine that denies the virgin birth of Jesus Christ is false, because it goes against the vivid teaching of the scripture in Matthew 1:18 – “Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.”
Examples of False Doctrine:
- The Obliteration Of Hell: According to the Bible, Hell is described as unfeigned place of everlasting torment, a destination for every stubborn soul. Revelation 20:15 – “And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” Any doctrine that denies the existence of hell, contradicts the words of Jesus directly in Matthew 10:28 – “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”
- The Doctrine That Delivers Grace As A License To Sin: 2 Corinthians 5:17 says “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” When one claims to be a follower of Christ, one must make the conscious effort to say NO to sin. One must be loyal to Christ and obey everything he says/commands. Luke 6:46 – “And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?”
- Redefining The Person Of Jesus Christ: Any doctrine that present another definition that denies the deity Jesus Christ, the virgin birth, His sinless nature, His death, His resurrection is false.
