Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Supreme Leader of Iran, has vowed “harsh response” following the bombings which occurred during the memorial of former Iran top General, Qassim Suleimani on Wednesday 3 January, 2024.
The explosions at Kerman, Southern region of Iran killed more than eighty (80), leaving several others severely wounded.
No group has come out to claim responsibility for the bombings.
In a statement on Wednesday evening, Al Khamenei said, “Cruel criminals must know that they will be strongly dealt with from now on and undoubtedly there will be a harsh response”.
Qassim Suleimani was killed by the United States (US) in a drone strike in 2020. He was seen as the most powerful figure in Iran after the Supreme Leader.
According to Irna news agency, a witness said: “We were walking towards the cemetery when a car suddenly stopped behind us and a waste bin containing a bomb exploded.
“We only heard the sound of the explosion and saw people falling.”
