In his reaction, CEO of Bayern Munich, Jan-Christian Dreesen, said, “we really fought hard with ten men and could have certainly turned the game around.”

Dreesen was referring to the humiliating 3-2 loss Thomas Tuchel’s side suffered in the hands of Bochum on Sunday 18 February, 2024.

The Bochum defeat came following the defeats against Lazio in the Uefa Champions League 2023/24 round of 16 clash at Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Italy; and the Bundesliga 2023/24 match against toppers, Bayer Leverkusen, on Saturday 10 February, 2024 at BayArena.

Here are reaction from the Bayern Munich camp following the loss at Vonovia Ruhrstadion on Sunday evening (fcbayern.com):

CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen: “We started well in the first 20 minutes. After 1-0, we had the opportunity to double our lead with a great chance coming for Harry Kane. But we really fought hard with ten men and could certainly have made it 3-3 with some great chances. We could have certainly turned the game around, but in the end mentality won out over quality today and so I feel Bochum deserved to win.”

Manager Thomas Tuchel: “I don’t think the defeat was a fair result today. A lot went against us. We had five or six clear-cut chances and dominated the game. We went behind out of nowhere, but never gave up until the final whistle. We were outnumbered for a long time. I feel the defeat was different to the last two, it was undeserved. Overall, we performed differently today than in Leverkusen and Rome. We never lost hope.”

Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer: “We were in control and initially put them under a lot of pressure with great chances. Our rhythm was broken up by the stoppages, but that can’t be an excuse. We did well for long periods of the game and have to praise ourselves for that. But we can’t allow ourselves to fall apart like we did and concede three goals in Bochum. That is not FC Bayern.”

Midfielder Leon Goretzka: “It feels like a horror movie that won’t end. Everything is just going against us at the moment. It feels incredibly strange. We can pick ourselves back up and say that we started the game well. And we did. But you do also end up feeling a bit stupid now if you limit yourself to winning in the first half an hour. In the end, we made too many individual errors. There have simply been too many of them in recent weeks.”

Forward Harry Kane: “No hiding from a tough week with performances and results not at the level we expect from ourselves. Got to pull together as a group and push forward – big run of important games coming up to turn it round.”

HC: I hope Bayern Munich wins a trophy this campaign! Though, no sign of that happening!!
