Biblical Loyalty: Part 6 – Faithfulness and Loyalty – ‘And Ruth said, entreat me not to leave you, whither thou goest, I will go’

Memory Verse: Ruth 1:16 – “And Ruth said, Entreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God.”

Ruth 1:16

The above scripture is about Ruth confessing her faithfulness and loyalty to her mother-in-law, Naomi.

Despite Naomi losing her husband (Elimelech), and two sons (Mahlon and Chilion); Ruth remained with her and confessed to her “whither thou goest, I will go, and thy God my God”.

The Book of ‘Ruth’ reveals more about Ruth!

Being loyal to someone or a cause takes the grace of God.

Joshua 24:15 says, “And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord , choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Joshua was asking the Israelites to choose “whom ye will serve” if serving the Almighty God “seem evil unto you”, adding, the people are free to choose “whether the gods which your fathers served or the gods of the Amorites”.

As a matter of truth, whoever or whatever you choose to be loyal to is entirely a choice for you to make; shouldn’t be by force.

Faithfulness And Loyalty:

Both appear to have same meaning, however, one can have faith and not be loyal and vice versa. Notwithstanding, they go hand-in-hand.

Being faithful means to be constant, solid and steadfast in obedience to whatever one owes allegiance. This is expressing trust and confidence in something/someone without the real proof of its existence. Read Hebrews 11:1.

Loyalty simply means devotion or fidelity to a someone or cause. For instance, a wife can be loyal to her husband but have no faith in the future of the marriage. Loyalty is practical.

2 Timothy 2:13 says, “If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.” This is saying that God’s faithfulness to mankind remains firm even if we fall short of being faithful to Him.

Mark 8:35 says, “For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it.” Our Loyalty is revealed in our dedication to Jesus Christ and His Gospel. We show our Loyalty to Jesus by obeying His commandments. Read Mark 8:34.

If we remain faithful and loyal to the Almighty God, His promise is to be with us “even unto the end of the world”. Matthew 28:20 says, “Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
