Despite winning at home against West Ham United, Xabi Alonso, Bayer Leverkusen manager, believes their English visitors “have nothing to lose”.

He said, “they will play very differently next week at home.”

Jonas Hoffman and Nigerian striker, Victor Boniface, scored both goals for the Black and Reds in the 83rd and 90+1 minutes respectively.
In his post-match comments, Alonso said: “We are happy with the result and the performance. It was not an easy game to create chances in. They played very deep. We waited for our moment, it was a little late but the players from the bench had a big impact tonight.
“Of course I’m very happy for Jonas, he was a bit unlucky in the games against Mainz and Hoffenheim. Today he made it happen. We need him for the next six weeks, he’s an important player for us.
“They will play very differently next week at home. They have nothing to lose. We have time to prepare and will be ready to fight for a place in the semi finals.”
