He expects both Israel and Hamas to “reach an agreement for the sake of the people of Gaza, and for the sake of the hostages and their families”.
However, Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, is headstrong saying, “with or without a deal” the “military invasion of Rafah” will happen so as to clinch “complete victory” over Hamas.
Guterres said: “A military assault on Rafah would be an unbearable escalation, killing thousands more civilians & forcing hundreds of thousands to flee.
“It would have a devastating impact on Palestinians in Gaza, with serious repercussions on the occupied West Bank & across the wider region.”
