This is coming a week after he was arrested and charged by French authorities as a result of violations on the messaging app.
On Thursday, Durov made his first comments following his arrest, saying, the move was “misguided” and “surprising”.
Durov, however, confessed, Telegram was “not perfect” and would take more action against unlawful content which he says come from a very small proportion of its 950 million users.
He wrote: “While 99.999 percent of Telegram users have nothing to do with crime, the 0.001 percent involved in illicit activities create a bad image for the entire platform, putting the interests of our almost billion users at risk.
“That’s why this year we are committed to turn moderation on Telegram from an area of criticism into one of praise.”
After four (4) days of detention, 39-year old Durov was charged on several counts of failing to curb extremist and illegal content on Telegram.
